How To Use A Snatch Strap In 5 Simple Steps
When bogging a car, there are a number of products you can buy to help you get out of the sand either self sufficiently or with the help of a friend. Today, we are using the ARB Snatch Strap to pull us out of the soft sand.
Step 1. Attach your D Shackle To The Recovery Hitch
The recovery hitch available on the back of your 4WD is probably the best spot to attach your D shackle to. To ensure safety, you should never place the snatch strap around the tow ball of your car.
If you haven’t got a recovery hitch, unhook your hitch, pull the whole lot out, take the end of the snatch strap with the loop and poke it up the eye of your tow bar and put the pin through it. That should provide the safest option.
Step 2. Place the recovery damper over the top of the snatch strap
Generally, you want to be less than a car length apart when recovering a vehicle out of the sand. the snatch strap should sit in an s bend shape without crossing over to touching parts of the rope.
Once you’ve done this, place the recovery damper over the snatch strap, somewhere in the middle of the rope’s length. This will ensure that if the rope breaks for any case, the snatch stop won’t slingshot into another direction and helps prevent injury
Step 3. The Tower
The tower needs to be in second or third, whilst also being in low gear. This gives the driver a bit of momentum, whilst avoiding getting bogged down in too high of a gear.
Step 4. The Towee
When the tower goes, wait til the strap is almost taught, then drop the clutch and take off.
Step 5. Communication is key!
When towing a truck out of the sand, it’s important to know what both drivers are doing. With the use of an intercom or walkie talkie, you can confirm with the driver when they plan on taking off, and if the towee sees any issues beforehand.
With a few basic rules, you’ll find unbogging a car with a snatch strap as easy and simple as that.
