ARB Moreton Island Fishing Classic: Day 3

0

Welcome back to our coverage of the 2018 ARB Moreton Island Fishing Classic. It’s day 3 of the event and we are hearing reports of the fishing being a little quiet so far this year so with the day at our disposal a plan is hatched to use the tides to our full advantage and do an anti-clockwise circumnavigation of Moreton island. During the day we travel to a number of must-see spots including The Gutter bar, Perched Lake, the Mirapool Lagoon and more.

.

The Gutter Bar

Starting at the bi-pass behind Tangalooma resort we cross over to the western beach. It’s important to keep track of the tide as it can be very difficult to get up the beach at high tide. Along the way, we stop off at the world-famous Gutter bar. A perfect spot for a cold beer, fresh oysters and admire the birdlife. This unique place has been around for 35 years with ever-changing decor as people bring in artefacts as they stop in to visit the bar.

Morton Island Ferry

Moreton Island is well worth a visit and Micat can get you there and MIA will keep you entertained when you get there. Visit your local ARB Store and get your fourby Moreton ready. With lots of creek and sand crossings, you’ll be sure to need the right equipment for the trip.

Perched Lake, Morton Island

The Eastern beach offers a number of freshwater Lakes and creeks such as Perched Lake, and other tea tree water crossings which provide the perfect spot to pull up for lunch. After we fueled up on some food, we set off up the northern beach, we prepare ourselves for the Yellow Patch crossing. If you’re planning on passing through Yellow Patch, be sure to take it easy and don’t rush the crossing as it can get quite deep. For more information on beach driving, head to our beach safety article here.  We look forward to seeing you at next years MIFC.
