The Simpson Desert Oasis Roadhouse has been gutted by a fire that broke out last night. The iconic roadhouse was an important stop for anyone making the trip out to the Simpson Desert, as well for the locals.

The fire started in the Roadhouse’s storage and roof space, which created significant damage according to the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

Extra QFES personnel have been flown out to Bedourie to assist the Queensland Police Service is investigating what caused the fire.

Unfortunately, this means that there is no fuel stop for anyone travelling between Birdsville and Boulia.

Founder of Campr, Dean Miller says that the Campr team has fond memories of travelling out west and stopping at the old Roadhouse.

“That place is an institution and will be sorely missed from the community of tourers that head out West.” Says Dean.

Be sure to stock up on a few jerry cans and do your fuel consumption calculations if you’re making the trip out west as the next place to fuel up after Birdsville is Boulia, 382 kilometres away.

No one wants to be stuck high and dry out west as we’re hitting the warmer months!
