The Seakeeper 2 Gyro Stabiliser
This is Seakeeper’s Signature 788 just off North West Island, 50 nautical miles to the east of Gladstone Region. Out with the team from Club Marine, we take the Seakeeper Gyro Stabiliser out for a test run. If you’ve ever had the feeling of seasickness, you know it’s enough to keep you away from boating completely. The constant roll and slapping of a boat in ways can even make even the best boaters queasy.
For years, there have been countless stabilisation systems have been developed, however, a lot have never fully worked, until now. The Seakeeper 2 has finally produced a fully functioning Gyro stabilizer to remove the sickness from your seas. With 21st century technology, this built-in gyro stabiliser spills at exhilarating speeds. Installed in the centre of the monohull, the gyro stabiliser significantly reduces the amount of rocking. Meaning you can bring the kids, wife, family and friends along for a day out on the water.
Seakeeper Stabilisation System
Before the Seakeeper, gyro stabilising systems were only available for larger water vessels or for the largely wealthy. Thanks to the Seakeeper, the gyro stabiliser has been able to reduce in size and price. With the latest compact model, fisherman with of smaller fishing boats, now have to opportunity to afford and buy a fishing boat with a proper stabilising system.
What Is The SeaKeeper & How Does It Work?
The Seakeeper stabiliser is a spinning flywheel weight. A giant chunk of stainless steel that spins at a rate of 9,000 RPMs. The technology for the Seakeeper has actually been around for quite some years, however, the team have managed to make the stabiliser quite small and compact.
The way they make it work is by spinning the flywheel weight at 9,000 RPMs, the weight sits at 90 degrees perpendicular to what the boat is sitting. Then, by putting torque through the hull of the boat, it stops the boat from rocking.

You Sure Can! Around 30% of Seakeepers clientele is for the retrofit market. A lot of clients who have bought a monohull, have requested a seakeeper gyro stabiliser be fitted into their boat. With their current Seakeeper, they have simply glued to stabiliser to the deck, otherwise, the team can place the gyro stabiliser into the structure of the hull underneath the boat.
