Warrego Way is the best outback Queensland road-trip. The Warrego Highway adventure starts in the Sunshine state capital, Brisbane and guides travellers through to the iconic and remote town of Birdsville.

Roma is the gateway to outback Queensland with countless things to try and explore around Roma. You can take a tour of the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest cattle saleyards, see Queensland’s biggest bottle tree and head to The Big Rig for a history on the discovery of oil and gas in Australia. Roma is also home to the gorgeous Carnarvon Gorge National Park where you will find well-established walking trails to tour the towering white cliffs and amazing bushland. The town makes for a great stop off on your journey along the Warrego Highway.
Charleville is the largest town in the Murweh Shire, so you will need a few days to check out some of the best landmarks in the area on your way through Warrego Way. Head to the Charleville Bilby Festival for a chance to see the little Australian icons up close or try to reach the stars at Charleville Cosmos Centre & Observatory where you can take in some amazing views of the night sky unlimited by the bright city lights.
Eromanga is known as the “furthest town from the sea” in Australia and although you can’t enjoy ocean views, you will get the chance to uncover ancient dinosaur bones at Eromanga Natural History Museum. Scientists have labelled Eromanga as the most exciting and prolific dinosaur site in Australia. So, if you love the outback and the idea of seeing some of Australia’s largest and oldest bones than Eromanga is the place to stop on your way through.
Windorah is a great location to stop on your Warrego Way drive. Windorah prides itself on the beauty of Coopers Creek and the vibrant red colour of the sandhill surrounding the country town. Windorah is a perfect place for bird watching, fishing and relaxing. If you are planning to stay in this outback Queensland town on your trip along Warrego Way, Campr recommend staying at the Cooper Cabins Windorah. Cooper Cabins is a great place to kick back and unwind on your stay in Windorah.
What better way to end a trip along Warrego Way than Australia’s most iconic remote town, Birdsville. People come flocking from all over the world to visit this charismatic town. There are the best pubs and pies, exciting races, and great festival music to enjoy out this way. Birdsville is a must-see town for all lovers of outback Queensland.
