When most people think of a Great Barrier Reef getaway it normally involves a flight, expensive accommodation and transport costs. But what if I told you some of the best Great Barrier Reef experiences are less than half day’s drive and if you’re towing a van can also include some wonderful beachside stays in some truly beautiful locations. Starting at the beautiful Bargara Beach, we make our way out to Lady Musgrave Island at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef.

This relaxed coastal town is the perfect spot to holiday. A prime location to chuck on your togs, grab a board and hit the waves in the morning. This beautiful small town means your morning coffee, or favourite breakfast spot is only a simple stroll down the road. Enjoy sunrises to sunsets overlooking endless waters.

Bagara, Bundaberg

Taking the Jayco Journey Outback edition on a road trip to one of my favourite Queensland destinations, Bundaberg or more specifically Bargara Beach. Bundy by the Sea!! Staying at the Bargara Beach Caravan Park, this council-owned park sits on the most sensational block overlooking Neilsons Bay, Bundy’s favourite surf spot. The park is large, green and has all the amenities you could hope for. With powered and unpowered sites, you can’t get much better in location when it comes to beach camping.

This Jayco is perfectly set up for a trip like this with all the mod cons, tv, microwave, a massive kitchen, shower, ensuite and comfy sofa. Very livable indeed. But I am here to see the sights not lounge in Jayco luxury so let’s get busy.

Lady Musgrave Lagoon

The Main Event departs from Burnett Heads, Bundaberg’s main port. With regular trips to Lady Musgrave Lagoon, you can enjoy the absolute jewel in the crown that is Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef. With the help of the Lady Musgrave experience, this magnificently appointed vessel comes complete with glass bottom boats, dive and fishing tenders and on island tours complete with marine biologists.

There is no doubt however as to the star of the show on Lady Elliott. It’s the magnificent 14-hectare lagoon which lights up in every shade of blue you can imagine. Brett Lakey is the proud skipper of The Lady Musgrave experience and can tell you how much he loves his job. Can you even imagine arriving to this as your office space?

On these tours, you can enjoy day trips, snorkelling with the guides, scuba diving on the inside and outside of the reef wall, go bird watching, walk Lady Musgrave island, enjoy provided lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea by the waterside.

So to round out the day its only fitting that we check out what all the fuss is about, and it is truly a special thing to immerse yourself in. Lady Musgrave Experience departs most days from Burnett Heads you can book online here.

The Bargara Beach Caravan Park is fifteen minutes east of Bundy and perfect for a sneaky breakaway. And If you like the look of the Jayco Journey Outback and how could you not?? Talk to the team at Brisbane Camperland about their huge range of Jayco products.
